Make a piece of jewellery with me

Most of my jewellery is made using Precious Silver Clay. Tiny pieces of recycled silver are mixed with organic binder to make the clay. It can then be shaped and textured.

Once the clay has fully dried in the shape (the greenware stage) it can be fired either in a kiln or with a blow torch, similar to a cooks torch. The heat burns away the binder and ‘sinters’ the silver pieces together to make the piece pure, solid silver.

Step 1

Cut, mould, texture and shape the silver clay.

It's quick to dry out so I must work with some speed!

Step 2

Build the pieces together once dry with more clay to fix together.

Step 3

Add the back and a bail for the chain and leave to dry thoroughly. It is very delicate at this stage.

Once fired in the kiln and cooled you can burnish and polish the piece.

Add a chain and colour using various different techniques.
